With proper care and a little creativity, you can keep your colour-treated hair looking shiny and vibrant even after a period of time. We have rounded up some tricks and treatments to keep your hair looking lovely.
The biggest mistake people always make is over-washing coloured hair. Truth is, after you coloured your hair, you need to wait for at least 48 hours or even longer to wash with shampoo. The longer you wait, the more time for the colour to set and prevent it from fading. Hair experts also suggest to wash your hair less often to prevent water from washing away your vibrant colour. When you wash your hair, stick to lukewarm or cooler water temperatures, as hot water leeches dye out of hair faster and strips the colour easier.
When you are not shampooing, keep your colour-treated hair from getting wet with a shower cap. Or, simply pull your hair up into a loose bun or a ponytail to protect it from getting wet.
Chemical processes can often leave our hair dry and frizzy and lose its shine. Regular hair treatment can put the shine and bounce back to your hair and let your coloured hair looks fabulous for longer.
Pay attention to the colour that you choose. Though red may be the favourite colour for many, it tends to fade faster as the red molecules in red dye are harder to penetrate deeply into the hair. So if you’re going for a red hue, be sure to have your stylist use hair colour that maximises high-definition colour results with minimum stress to the hair’s cuticle.
If your coloured hair has faded into its bleached, blonde base, consider using an at-home touch up. There are many products for a quick pick-me-up before your next trip to the salon. You can choose products in a hair-mask base washout or in the form of a spray can for convenience.
