With so much going on in the world, we all feel worried, stressed or alone. Looking after your mental health has been more important than ever. It’s something that we should really invest in. There are loads of things you can do to look after your mental health and wellbeing– make a start with these 6 top tips.

1. Talk about your feelings

Talking to someone about what’s troubling you can release pent-up feelings. It also helps you look at things in a different way and to find solutions. You don’t have to appear to be strong or to try to struggle through things all by yourself.

2. Ask for help

It’s okay to ask for help if you are experiencing rough times, depression, or anxiety. Find it too hard to talk to your partner, a family member, or a friend?  Talk to a professional counsellor.

3. Keep active

Being active is essential in maintaining good mental health. Exercising can help eliminate low mood, anxiety, and stress as it boosts the chemicals in your brain that help put you in a good mood.

4. Take a break

Taking time out to do something just for yourself, or simply take time to relax. Do whatever that makes you genuinely happy, like cooking a meal, going for a walk, or picking up a new hobby.

5. Eat well

Maintaining a healthy diet isn’t just important for your body, but it’s also important for your mind. Try to eat a balanced diet. Binning bad habits like smoking and cutting down on alcohol and caffeine can have a positive effect on our mood.

6. Accept who you are

Be proud of who you are. Practicing self-love is about getting in touch with yourselves, your well-being, and happiness. Start each day by telling yourself something positive. There’s nothing wrong with putting yourself first.
