Blackheads are on-going problems. Let’s face it, they just keep coming back. How to get rid of those annoying blackheads for good? First, you need to know what you are dealing with. Blackheads are a mix of oil, dead skin cells, dirt and bacteria, that has oxidised from the air causing it to turn dark grey in colour. Trying to pop a blackhead is a huge no-no, it can seriously harm your skin, or even lead to scarring if it’s not done properly.

Now let’s find out the right ways to banish them painlessly and prevent them from forming again.

#1 Go for a chemical peel

A good at-home peel containing salicylic acid or glycolic acid is your best friend. These pore-clearing acids break up the components of the blackheads to minimize pore size, and increase cell turnover for smoother, softer skin.

#2 Do a weekly clay mask

Using a clay mask once a week can be really effective for treating stubborn blackheads.  Pore-clearing clays masks act as a magnet to suck excess sebum, dead skin cells, dirt and other impurities out deep from pores, without damaging your skin. Do look out for ingredients like detoxifying charcoal, volcanic clay and so on.

#3 Try retinoids

Even dermatologists agree that using the vitamin A derivative is the fastest way to get rid of blackheads. Go for highly effective over-the-counter retinoids that can clear your clogged pores and prevent blackheads from forming.

#4 Pick up a cleansing brush

Try adding a mechanical facial cleansing brush into your skincare regime. The sonic vibrations can penetrate deep in the layers of your skin for a strong yet gentle clean, and it is so much better than using your hands in preventing and treating blackheads. Do not over cleanse and stick to 2-3 times a week just to keep blackheads in check.
