Majority of our exfoliating face scrubs and toothpastes contain microbeads. However, microbeads are bad news. If you aren’t familiar with the issue, the basic problem is that those tiny plastic spheres found in exfoliating scrubs and other beauty products are small enough that they can pass through water filtration systems, and ultimately end up in the stomachs of marine life. Still, there’s more than one way to whisk off dead skin.
Here’s how to avoid all that and make your own DIY scrub with natural exfoliators
For Dry Skin
Mix sea salt with lavender essential oil and your favourite massage oil to make a paste. Scrub in a circular motion and rinse.
For Sensitive Skin
Mix finely ground oatmeal with honey, yogurt or buttermilk. Scrub and leave for 15 to 30 minutes before rinsing off.
For Acne-Prone Skin
Raw honey is known for its antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties, so mix with your preferred natural exfoliant (sea salt, sugar, oatmeal), massage into skin and rinse.
For Normal Skin
Mix sugar crystals with your favourite massage oil to make a paste — just try not to eat it!
