Choosing a moisturizer for skin that is either oily or dry is pretty easy. But when your skin is a little bit of both…well, we’re talking about the tricky thing called combination skin, it can be rather tricky and complicated. Combination skin can be dry, flaky and oily at all once. The good news is that we’ve put together some useful tips on how to choose to the right moisturizer for combination skin for you to achieve a complexion that is balanced, hydrated and healthy.
#1 Go for a sheer texture
Choose a lighter, gel or water-based moisturizer that is so hydrating but it doesn’t feel sticky or heavy. Consider a gel or gel/cream with a lightweight consistency. A light moisturising product is nourishing and hydrating enough for those dry patches but is not even a little greasy, so it won’t cause any trouble for your oily spots. You can apply the moisturiser all over your face and then layer a little more in the particularly dry parts such as the cheeks and jawline.
#2 Stick with an oil-free formula
Struggling with oily, acne-prone T-zone? Combination skin types just sit in between dry skin and oily skin, so sometimes two different moisturizers are just better than one. Try using a non-greasy, non-comedogenic formula only to your oily spots. It helps in oil control without blocking your pores or causing breakouts to the oily zones, while still delivers all the skincare benefits that your skin needs.
#3 Look out for hydrating ingredients
Hydration is critical for combination skin. Look out for moisturizers loaded with top hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, squalane or aloe vera, to keep both dry and oily zones hydrated, plumped and balanced.
#4 Use a sunscreen/moisturizer hybrid
Your skin starts looking greasy after applying sunscreen? Choose a light, multi-tasking daily moisturizer with protective SPF 30 or up. Look for moisturizing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or niacinamide that give your skin a drink without leaving it greasy.
