Breaking out? Switching up your diet could help banish pimples and prevent them from coming back. Here are some acne-causing foods that you should cut out of your diet to keep breakouts at bay. Let’s eat and drink your way to a clearer complexion!

#1 Dairy products

Hormones that are found in dairy products can stimulate excess sebum production and clog your pores. Even the growth hormones present in milk products encourage the overproduction of skin cells, thereby leading to congested pores and blemishes.

#2 Fast food

Fast foods contain both trans fats and saturated fats that can alter hormone levels in a way which promote acne development. Be sure you stay away from fast food items, such as burgers, nuggets, hot dogs, French fries, sodas and milkshakes to keep zits at bay.

#3 Refined Grains and Sugars

The refined sugar and carbohydrates in white bread, sodas and desserts may increase blood sugar and insulin levels, causing eruptions on your skin. Why? These sugar and carbohydrates are absorbed quickly into the bloodstream. When blood sugars rise, insulin levels also spike, contributing to the boost of serum production in your skin. This eventually leads to clogged pores and breakouts.

#4 Shellfish

Foods high in iodine can lead to clogged pores and breakouts, including lobster, shrimp and mussels. While the essential mineral is beneficial for health and skin, it can trigger irritation within your skin. It means the mineral can accelerate the formation of an inflamed pimple in people who have acne-prone skin only because they consume too much.
